WEEK 7 PRACTICUM (16/10/2023 - 20/10/2023)

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone. I hope you all are in good health and had a great week, last week. My schedule for last week was full of preparing for the haunted booth that was held during Entrepreneurship Day. It was a very memorable experience for me since it was my first time making a haunted booth. Alright, enough with the story from last week, and look forward to week 7 of practicum at Sekolah Kebangsaan Serdang.

MONDAY (16/10/2023)

Weekly assembly was fortunately conducted at the assembly ground, the weather was nice and warm. A lucky draw was held for the students and the teachers. The chance for each student is based on how many sets of coupons they bought for Entrepreneurship Day. For example, if a student buys three sets of coupons, he will have three names inside the lucky draw box. The same rules apply to the teachers’ lucky draw box.

I had a class with 4 Kenanga and most of the students asked if I was one of the ghosts in the haunted booth. I gave them a vague answer just to tease them. HAHA. After the class, I went straight to complete my daily lesson plan and journal. Later that day, the ghost team went to clean up the library back to its original appearance. We also counted how many coupons we got and it was a lot. After counting it, the profits from our booth were a huge amount which was a very joyous moment for all of us.

TUESDAY (17/10/2023)

The school held a report card day on this day and I was tasked with helping the homeroom teacher of 5 Anggerik. Actually, my task was just helping the teacher keep the classroom from being too noisy during the parents' meeting session. That’s all for Tuesday.

Wednesday (18/10/2023)

On Wednesday, I was supposed to have my first observation with my mentor but it was postponed to the next day. The schedule of the classes for each year changed to ‘jadual anjal’. So, my class clashes with my mentor’s class at 10 a.m. Since my observation was postponed to the next day, I had to change my lesson for today’s with tomorrow. Co-curriculum activity for this week was not conducted so school is finished at 1.30pm.

Thursday (19/10/2023)

My first observation by my mentor was on this day. My emotions were mixed with anxiety, nervousness, and excitement. My class for the observation was with 3 Dahlia at 11.30 a.m. I taught them about healthy and unhealthy foods. Worksheets were also provided but it was mostly having the students colour about food. Moving on, the result of my observation is 60 – 40, I think. Meaning around 60 percent is good and 40 percent is not so good. So, my mentor commented on my observation, she said that I need to improve my classroom management because, without students’ attention, the activity cannot be conducted. In terms of voice projection, my mentor said that my voice was loud but needed to be sterner so that the students would not play around and besides those two elements, everything is nice. I noticed my classroom management needs improvement and needs various strategies implemented to handle the students and prepare for any situation.

FRIDAY (20/10/2023)

On Friday, I did my reflection on my lesson plans and submitted it to the office. Most of my reflection was about classroom management. After submitting my lesson plan, I focused on completing the journal in the teacher’s room.
