WEEK 4 PRACTICUM: MAULIDUR RASUL (25/9 - 29/9)

Assalamualaikum & hello guys. Maulidur Rasul is just around the corner. Don’t forget to ‘selawat’ to our prophet Rasulullah S.A.W. May our good deeds be accepted by Allah S.W.T. Alright guys, I’m going to start my journal with Basmalah. Welcome to week 4 of my practicum at Sekolah Kebangsaan Serdang. This week’s main title is ‘Teaching Aids’. Look forward to what my story for this week will be.

Monday morning started with rain sprinkling down from the sky. Shoes wet, clothes with traces of rain, students entering the school grounds quickly with umbrellas, and I waiting in the teachers’ room while wondering whether there will be an assembly or not. Turns out, the assembly still continued as usual but the students were in their classroom and the teachers in the teachers’ room. The rain was very fragrant in the morning and almost set the mood for me to sleep. HAHAHA.

The class that I had for the day was with 4 Kenanga but my mentor asked me to switch class with her which is 3 Dahlia. I accepted it without any second thoughts. The reason my mentor wanted to switch was because she had to go to the hospital for an appointment. The worksheets for 3D were prepared and given to me by my mentor before she went for her appointment. The class with 3D will be about an hour and a half so, I searched for games that I can conduct in the classroom since I have a lot of time with them. Some activities that I did with the students were the hot seat and board race. They enjoyed the games that I conducted which made me feel very grateful. I just have to find the right tune and vibe to grab their interest in learning English. The next day I had classes with 4 Kenanga. They were still under module 7 Helping Out. I taught them possessive pronouns. Nothing particular happened on that day that was out of the ordinary.

On Wednesday, I had a class with 3 Dahlia. My mentor told me that 3 Dahlia will be learning a new topic which is module 8 ‘Where Were You Yesterday?’. In the class, I played an audio for them to listen and sing along. They were very interested and excited about the song. A few times in the class I had to raise my voice because some students were not paying attention and were playing at the back.

Later that day, I was supposed to join the co-curriculum activity but I had a meeting about Entrepreneurship Day. The meeting was an informal one and consisted of three clubs English Society, Road Safety Club, and Young Doctor Club. A lot of things were discussed such as the budget, materials, and activities. We were able to come out with some ideas and concluded a few activities to be conducted on the day. The meeting ended at 4.30 in the evening.

Thursday…… HOLIDAYYYY. It was a public holiday, Maulidur Rasul. Don’t forget to ‘selawat’ to our prophet.

My last day of the week, Friday was not any different than the previous week. It’s just the same routine which is submitting the lesson plan to the administrator. I did some reflection on my teaching throughout the week. I found that I have to be cautious with the time for the activities and control the classroom better. Some teachers advised me that once in a while I have to raise my voice to show that I am the teacher and they are the student.
