WEEK 8 PRACTICUM (23/10/2023 - 27/10/2023)
Assalamualaikum and hello everyone. Welcome back to my simple journal of my practicum journey. Before that, let us pray for our brothers and sisters in Palestine. May Allah ease everything for them. We have to be grateful for all the things that we have, food, water, and shelter. We have to be grateful that our country is not at war but at peace. Remember everyone, pray for Palestine, ONE DAY PALESTINE WILL BE FREE!
Going back to
my journal, currently, it’s week 8, and about 6 more weeks left before my
practicum is going to be finished. Thank you for reading my blog until the
latest post. Truly appreciate the love and support from everyone. Look forward
to what happened during week 8 of my practicum.
Monday (23/10/2023)
Assembly
was held as usual, the teacher on duty gave a report about last week's discipline
and issues. Some content from the teacher’s report was similar to the previous week
which is about throwing trash into the bin after eating at the canteen, not
eating chewing gum at school, and eating inside the classroom. After that, there
was an announcement for the top 3 highest sales during Entrepreneurship Day. Third
place went to Bahasa Melayu Club, second place went to ICT Club and the first
place went to…… try to guess. IT GOES TO THE HAUNTED BOOTH! WOOOOOOO. So, our
booth won the highest sale during the event. We received a hamper filled with
snacks and drinks. It was a wonderful moment.
Moving
on, my class for the day with 4 Kenanga went just like usual. I taught them
about pet animals. There was a lot to be covered about pet animals but I
introduced to them just the basic idea of pets. After my class with them, I
went straight to the teacher’s room and focused on completing the daily lesson
plan and journal.
Tuesday (24/10/2023)
My
second observation with my mentor was on Tuesday at 10.30 a.m. The class that I
had my observation was 4 Kenanga. I taught them the same topic which is about
pets but I introduced to them ways to care for their pets. I also provided a
worksheet for each of them to do during the class. There were some situations
during the classroom teaching I had trouble speaking. My brain was so fast
that my mouth was having trouble keeping up and was speaking nonsense. Soon,
the class concluded and my mentor went to her class to teach. I was totally
nervous and anxious thinking that my marks would be low. The comments from my
mentor were given the next day since I was on duty for the week. I had to go
watch the school gate during students' return home.
Wednesday (25/10/2023)
On
Wednesday, I taught 3 Dahlia about balanced and unbalanced diets. I introduced
to them food that can be consumed in large intake and food that is suggested to
be consumed in small intake. I did an activity with them but there were a few
times when the classroom was disrupted by their talking which caused the
activity to be delayed a few minutes. I think I need to practice being stern
with the students. It seems like I have to raise my voice so that the students
will not cause a scene when I’m teaching or conducting an activity.
The evening that day, there was a co-curriculum activity. Sports and games were the
activities for this week. So, the handball club went to the field to play after
taking attendance at classes 3A and 3C. The kids were all eager and excited to
play. I divided them into groups. The boys were divided into two groups of 7
people since the boys are not many. The girls were divided into groups of 11
because they were many so about four groups were created. They played against
each other and most of them enjoyed playing the sport. Some students were not
chasing the ball since they did not want to play in the match. A few minutes
later, I told those who did not want to play to sit outside the playing field.
Around 4 pm, it was raining so all of us quickly went inside the school
building and prepared to return home.

Thursday (26/10/2023)
I
had my final observation with my mentor on Thursday. It was supposed to be on
Friday but my academic supervisor had a faculty meeting which was unavoidable. My
supervisor arrived at my school around 10.20 a.m. and I led her straight to the
class that I would be teaching. The class was 4 Kenanga which is the class that
I always teach on Monday and Tuesday. Before the observation, I was very
nervous, anxious, and worried that the lesson would go wrong but those thoughts
were put aside as soon as I started teaching. I taught them about pet animals
by showing videos and playing a quiz with them. After the class ended, my
supervisor called me to the back and gave feedback on my teaching. She said
that I have to improve on my classroom management and voice clarity.
Furthermore, she said that everything was okay and she also gave me a
compliment which made me smile for a while. After that, we went to meet with
the GPK1 and took some photos together and I sent my supervisor off with a wave
and a smile.

Friday (27/10/2023)
The
school started with a recitation of surah Yaasin at the assembly ground.
Continued with a short speech by Ustaz Muhammad about gratitude and Palestine.
Next, ‘Kem Bestari Solat’ started with all the students returning to their
respective classes and having their reading in prayers checked by the homeroom
teacher. I was tasked with taking care of 5 Dahlia. I checked some of the
students’ recitations in their prayer from 9 a.m. until 10.10 a.m. After that, I
went to submit my lesson plan at the office. I went to meet with my mentor and
discussed a few things with her. Around 11.45 am, I went to ‘Sudut Minda’ to
observe the students do a simulation of Subuh prayer. At 12 p.m., the program
finished and students returned home.
