WEEK 12 PRACTICUM (20/11/2023 - 25/11/2023)

Assalamualaikum and a good day to my readers. I hope that everyone is in great condition and has a blissful life. My practicum is almost completed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Serdang, just a few weeks left. Honestly, I can't wait to graduate and further my studies at another place to gain experience and knowledge. This post will be about my experiences in week 12 where I had many fun and tiring moments. Do look forward to it.

Monday (20/11/2023)

On Monday, I had a class with 4 Kenanga at 9.10 a.m. I taught them a new topic which is about Get Active, module 9. I introduced to the students some sports vocabulary and had them repeat the words a few times. Additionally, I divided the students into groups to play a game called 'Taboo'. Each group is given strips of paper to play with. They played for about 10 minutes and they continued completing the worksheet that I gave them to do. After that, we discussed the answers together.

Later that evening, around 1.40 p.m. there was a briefing about Children's Day that will be held on Friday. The discussion did not take long because everyone was informed of their respective positions during the event. There were a few changes made but it did not disrupt the overall planning of the event. At 2.30 p.m. the briefing ended smoothly.

Tuesday (21/11/2023)

On Tuesday, I continued teaching 4 Kenanga the same topic which is Get Active. I had them copy a song in their writing book. The song was from their textbook which I had them listen to first. After that, I gave them some worksheets to do and then we discussed the answers together. After the class, I went straight to the teacher's room to continue finishing my lesson plan.

Wednesday (22/11/2023)

On Wednesday, I did a revision session with 3 Dahlia about the time of the day. I showed some pictures to the students and asked them questions about what they did last weekend. Some of them were able to answer with short complete sentences, while a few only managed to answer with one word. I provided them each a worksheet and also some guidance on how to complete it. After that, I had them paste it into their exercise book and send it to my table for checking.

Later that day, a co-curriculum activity was held. It was the uniform unit activity and I was in the Tunas Kadet Remaja Sekolah (TKRS). We stayed in the classroom because it was raining heavily outside. After having the students' attendance taken, they were tasked to memorise some surah from the Al-Quran. The co-curriculum activity ended around 4.30 p.m.

Thursday (23/11/2023)

On Thursday, nothing much happened. I only had a class with 3 Dahlia at 11.30 a.m. I did a correction session with the students. I had the students correct their mistakes and explained the reason it was incorrect. I did not play games with them because I wanted to have them focus on doing the corrections for the worksheets that I gave them previously.

Friday (24/11/2023)

On Friday, Children's Day was held at the assembly ground. Fortunately, the weather was nice so there was no need for the event to be conducted at a different venue. The event started at 8 a.m. with the arrival of VIPs consisting of representatives of PIBG and the school's administrative staff. There were a few performances prepared by PPKI, preschool, level 1, and level 2 students. A prize ceremony was also held for the students. After that, the students were given a goody bag, a drink, a personal-size pizza, and an ice cream each. The students were so excited with the food that was provided to them. It was fun watching them eat together. I forgot to mention that I was tasked with distributing the pizzas to the students.

Moving on, after Friday prayer, there was a 'Perkhemahan Unit Beruniform' held for 2 days and 1 night at the school grounds. I was tasked with setting up the tents, taking care of the students' spirituality aspect, and being on night watch. The camp started at 2.30 p.m. with the registration of the students, followed by setting up the tents at 3.30 p.m. After that, we prayed Asar together led by one of the facilitators invited from UPM. Next, the students had dinner at the canteen and went to clean up themselves for Maghrib and Isha' prayer. Later on, the students practiced in their own groups for the night performance.

During the students did their performance, I helped other teachers roast chickens for the students' supper. It was an incredible moment for me. While waiting for the chickens to be cooked, I went to visit the students performing at the school's hall. There were many kinds of performances prepared by each group. It was so interesting and unique. Around 11.30 p.m. the students went to have their supper and went to sleep. I went to monitor the students with another teacher. We were on night duty until 2 a.m.

Saturday (25/11/2023)

Around 5 a.m. the students woke up for Subuh prayer. They were told to wake up early to take a shower so that they would have ample time to prepare themselves. At 7 a.m. the students did aerobics before having their breakfast. After having my breakfast and helping the students with a few things, I went back to sleep at the computer lab where the male teachers slept. I slept for about 3-4 hours and woke up at 10 a.m. Fast forward, the camp ended at 5.30 p.m. with the closing ceremony starting at 4.30 p.m. The camp was very exciting yet exhausting at the same time. Before this, I only knew the perspective of the students during the camping, now I know what it feels like from the teacher's perspective.

Closing Ceremony

In conclusion. this week was hectic yet fun. I get to see the children's smiles and laughter during the Children's Day and experience camping at school. These small moments may be the reason or motivation for the teachers to keep on teaching at school. I truly learned a lot and hope that one day all the teachers at SK Serdang will be rewarded for their contributions.
